My home base — a settled, family-friendly town on the Halifax River, minutes from the beach and full of history most people never notice.
Port Orange began as something rare in Florida history. After the Civil War, Dr. John Milton Hawks helped establish a colony here for newly freed families — one of the state’s earliest Freedmen’s settlements — along the west bank of the Halifax River. Before that, the land held the Dunlawton Plantation and its sugar mill; the coquina ruins still stand today inside the Sugar Mill Botanical Gardens, draped in live oaks and quiet trails.
Over the next century Port Orange grew from those riverside roots into one of Volusia County’s most popular family communities. Today it’s known for strong schools, riverfront parks and the Riverwalk, and the causeway that carries you straight over to the beach — a pace that feels settled without being sleepy. It’s where I live, and where a lot of families decide to stay.
Median price is an approximate recent figure (2026) for general guidance only and moves with the market and the neighborhood. Dining, shops, and attractions are local favorites for your reference, not paid placements — for current listings or a home value on any street here, just reach out.
Whether you’re relocating, buying your next place, or getting ready to sell, I live and work right here — and I’m glad to walk you through it. No pressure, just real answers.
